Al-Rummani was a prominent figure of the Basran School of grammar and was deeply influenced by logic and Mu'tazilite philosophy. His commentary is distinguished by its intellectual rigor and systematic approach.
Methodology: Unlike traditional linguistic commentaries that focus solely on syntax, Al-Rummani integrates logic and rational inquiry into his explanations. He provides definitions, categories, and justifications for linguistic rules.
Significance: It is considered one of the earliest and most philosophical commentaries on Sibawayh’s work. While parts of the original extensive commentary have been lost over time, the surviving volumes are essential for understanding the evolution of grammatical thought and the intersection of language with formal logic.
