What happened to the people of Gaza who survived the genocide? Do we have the right to consider them "survivors"? Where does human pain go when justice is absent? How did they lose parts of their bodies and transform into new forms of existence? And how can we create a different narrative that investigates pain and tragedy in our world? And how do we examine the act of loss, which is in itself a form of the continuity, power, and completeness of the genocide narrative: the loss of dismembered bodies, the loss of our ability to see, the loss of the profound visualization of the suffering of others, and the loss of language? Let us listen to the testimonies of wounded and surviving Gazans, recorded by Samar Yazbek, in an attempt to revive their memory, which makes them resistant to being lumped into the game of counting numbers, and to rescue their humanity from the process of objectification created by the fast-paced consumer media machines.
