The American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is considered the general staff for Israeli affairs in the US, given its role in exercising political pressure on behalf of Israel to serve its interests. It represents the supposed "peace dream" or the Zionist "territorial dream" and the interest of Israel, which enjoys special treatment. It has succeeded in achieving a unique position in many political situations in the US Administration and other political spheres. This has led many to believe that anyone who crosses the path of Israel's interests—especially if they were a member of the Congress or an official in the Cabinet or responsible for a position that affects Israel's interests—must be held accountable.
