The author is Gamal al-Banna (جمال البنا) (1920-2013). He was a prominent Egyptian reformist Islamic thinker, and the younger brother of Hassan al-Banna, the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood. Gamal al-Banna was known for his independent and often controversial views, advocating for a re-interpretation of Islamic texts that prioritized the Quran and human reason over traditional interpretations and Hadith, especially those he found contradictory to the Quran.
