Some wandered into the labyrinthine corridors of death, while others were swept away by exile into Bermuda-triangle-like voids—their fates reduced to mere rumors, as tenuous and fleeting as a stray breeze on a sweltering day. Capucci alone survived—in one way or another—the legacy of absence that had afflicted the family like an inexorable plague. By some twist of fate, or perhaps through a design orchestrated by an unseen hand, less than thirty years after the Nakba, the members of the family found themselves scattered across distant, disparate corners of the world—while Capucci alone remained within the homeland."
