Grammatical rules constrain the linguistic realm through binding regulations—analogous in their absolute nature to the authority of a restrictive, controlling patriarchal figure. Together, they serve to extend masculine dominion, entrenching its hegemony and perceived virtues, thereby mirroring the dichotomy of the feminine and the masculine in language with that of the female and the male in social reality.

How, then, did grammatical scholarship descend into a form of discriminatory, violent differentiation between the two halves of the singular human soul—justifying this through claims that lack any basis in the most authoritative and truthful of sources: the Quran?

The endeavor to safeguard the language—ensuring its integrity, preventing deviations or irregularities, and warding off linguistic errors (*lahn*) or foreign influences (*‘ujma*)—was ostensibly intended to preserve the clarity of understanding and, by extension, the religion itself. Yet, as the grammarians claimed, this pursuit did not prevent them from falling into error, nor did it stop them from contradicting the Quranic vision regarding the fundamental unity of human beings—a unity rooted in their common origin, as expressed in the concept of the "single soul": "He created you from a single soul and created from it its mate" (An-Nisa 4:1).

If the question of "feminine writing" is to be explored—specifically by interrogating language itself, which serves as the central crucible for the identity of the writing subject (rather than merely examining what written texts say about that subject)—then grammatical rules concerning the feminine and the masculine may well provide the most fitting starting point for identifying one of the primary, underlying causes of the coercive marginalization of the feminine within the realm of creative writing.
