«The Arab State in Spain; From the Conquest to the Fall of the Caliphate».

The history of Arab Spain, a cultural heritage and expansionist policy, is one of the most prominent, important, and exciting stages in Islamic history, encompassing both brilliance and radiance, as well as setbacks and tragedy. This ancient Visigothic kingdom, overrun by Arab Muslims and transformed into an Umayyad state at the beginning of the eighth century AD, was destined to take on a distinct identity and distinctive direction. Its connection to the central authority was weak from the beginning of its Arab formation, due to well-known geographical and political factors. The problem of governance stemmed from specific local circumstances and was not linked to decisions issued by the Caliphate, as was the case in most states. This independence drive soon crystallized after the Umayyads left this institution in Damascus and were pursued and eliminated. The remote province maintained its independence after power was transferred to the Abbasids, pioneering the independent states that emerged from the Caliphate, especially in its western wing. Perhaps this leads us to discuss the reasons that led this region to monopolize the independence movement and escape from the grip of the central authority. To find an explanation for this phenomenon, we must return to the roots of the relationship that linked this region to the Arab expansion movement, which was by no means an ordinary relationship.
