The work is a scholarly poem composed of approximately 1,000 verses (Alfiyya) written in the Rajaz meter, a common format used in Islamic scholarship to make complex subjects easier to memorize. In this text, al-Zabidi meticulously documents his own chains of transmission (Isnad), linking himself to the great scholars, authors, and books of the Islamic tradition that preceded him.
