A Concise History of Pakistan

This book evolved out of interest expressed by Pakistani families living in Britain to know more of there heritage and customs. Some of those families are now second or third generation British and traditional ties with their homeland are becoming less clear as their children integrate ever more with the culture of their adopted country. Many are unaware from the colorful and tumultuous past which makes Pakistan the nation she is today. As the world looks toward the dawn of a new century, it was thought important to bring to a wider audience deeper knowledge of the rich tapestry of Pakistan’s history.

The Islamic Republic of Pakistan came into being at Midnight on 14th August 1947. This book encapsulates her history from pre-historic times to the 50th anniversary of Nationhood. Descriptions of the events are concise and purely factual without interpretation based on a particular viewpoint, or historical analysis to further a particular ideology, although background information explaining the significance of the events is provided where necessary. Also included are four Appendices giving biographical notes, list of presidents and Prime Minister, key historical dates, statistical data, and a detailed map of the country. This is a unique reference source for school and university teachers and students of multicultural education. This concise but very well researched work id easily accessible to the general reader too who is interested in the history of Pakistan.
