Here, Yoko Ogawa has constructed an entire world, piece by piece: an island where objects and creatures vanish, and where emotions fade away. Men and women either relinquish their memories or guard them in secret. Agencies and organizations track down these memories, ensuring their disappearance.
It is a dazzling novel that has succeeded in crafting a paradox: the construction of a world founded upon disappearance and erasure.
