The skies of Yemen have transformed into testing grounds for drones—aircraft that, in the dead of night, indiscriminately hunt down lives in their raids.
In this manner, Amer loses his sister and her three daughters, finding himself entangled amidst betrayals and conflicts he never could have foreseen.
Set just a few years prior to the eruption of hostilities in this land of precarious balances, the novel transports us between Amer’s village—Sadr al-Jabal—and Sana’a, a city unlike any other. It lays bare the intricate web of tribal and political relations, captures the nuances of daily life, and raises profound questions regarding violence, loss, and the search for self.
