A wonderful and informative work written during the author's travels through Syria, Lebanon and the Druze of Lebanon, where the anonymous author is listed as 'an Oriental Studies student'. The author visited Syria, Lebanon, including the Mount Lebanon Druze regions. This work contains history and notes on their society in the years 1841-1843 when the traveler was visiting. Translation of Khaled al-Jubayli

The translator, Khaled Jubayli, was visiting the New York Public Library in search of books written by travelers who visited the East, and came upon this book published in London in 1844, entitled: "The Modern Syrians', or 'The Native Society in Damascus, Aleppo, and the Mountains of the Druses'. It drew his attention, and he has presented this wonderful translation.
