RUMI: Mystic and Poet

I hear nothing in my ear
But your voice.
Heart has plundered mind
of its eloquence.

Love writes a transparent
Calligraphy, so on
The empty page my soul
Can read and recollect.

The Sufi mystic and poet Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī is most beloved for his writings which represent the ecstasies and mysteries of life in all its forms—erotic, platonic divine—which are fresh and intense today as when they were first written by this medieval Persian poet and spiritual genius.

In this compact volume, Reynold Alleyne Nicholson, the renowned Islamic scholar, combines his research in Sufi doctrines and history with a rich account of the spiritual and metaphysical significance of Sufism as a living tradition. This volume reveals Rūmī’s charm and depth of thought more than in any other book.
