مؤنس الملكMunis al-Malik

Translated to Arabic from the French, «Le fou du Roi» (The Court Jester), a prize winning novel by Moroccan writer and painter Mahi Binebine (b. 1959). «His novel merges the author's family tragedy and the history of Morocco. It tells the story of his father, a trusted companion to King Hassan II, and his brother, a young military officer involved in the 1971’s failed Skhirat coup d’état, resulting in his incarceration...Binebine’s novel stands out as a personal narrative of a father-son opposition at the very heart of political power. This familial confrontation is expressed through a series of binaries structuring the text: tragedy and comedy, love and hate, peace and violence, hope and despair.» (Summary Excerpt from www.worldliteraturetoday.com review)
