Taqrir Mehlis

One becomes light upon reaching these realms. It grants certain abilities; physical pains vanish. In one of the corridors, I saw Hariri sitting with twenty sheets of paper; each time he finished reading them, he would start over. Each sheet contained a single life story—the stories of those who perished alongside him in the explosion. The final sheet was written by a paramedic in the last vehicle: the ambulance. In another corridor—near the edge of the library—I see the man whose car was destroyed by an explosive device. This man was a writer. Here, however, writing does not come easily to him. The words no longer arrive; he does not know how to set down what he wishes to express. He wants to write a letter to his wife, but after five letters, he grows weary. He cannot find a sixth letter; he cannot find another word. The roar of the blast still echoes in his mind, and thick, black smoke clouds his vision. An Alfa Romeo is a small car; the pressure of the explosion within such a confined space was horrific. He sips some water and gazes at the word on the white sheet of paper.
