Rasail al-Qitatرسائل القطط

Translated to Arabic, «Kedi Mektuplari» (Cat Letters), a novel by Turkish author Oya Baydar. Is «Cat Letters» a cat novel? Nina, one of the cat's protagonists of the novel, makes a cruel assessment on this subject: «There is nothing new about cats in this book; but it is a very useful resource for cats who want to get to know and understand humans better.»

Cats and humans seek an answer to a question. Can the person who asks that question find peace again? Can the cat who asked that question remain a cat any longer? Are the fears, sorrows, joys, destinies of a handful of people and their cats scattered in the whirlpool of a great hurricane and historical turning point, a mirror of the thinking people of our age? No one who reads «Cat Letters» will be able to look at cats with the same old eyes; No cat who reads «Cat Letters» will be able to see people the way they used to.
