«Progress toward Disaster», essays by Lebanese poet and writer Bilal Khabayz. In this work he deals with art not as a spectacle tool but as a means of objection, and by looking at it, he sets a stage when a society heads towards decay. Looking at the beginning of the third millennium, the Lebanese capital experienced a multifaceted artistic wave, with a foundation of urban development. As a part of the wave, debate became heated between intellectuals and artists of some countries trying to enter modernity. The author believes that what is happening in Lebanon is a gradual stigmatizing of modernity, leading to hostility toward science and modernity. Such «progress» foreshadowed disaster, and to stay alive it is urged to seek relief from abroad.
