كتاب في تراجم الرجال متخصص في طبقة معينة وهم الشعراء وقد قسمهم إلى قسمين القسم الأول في الشعراء الجاهليين ووضعهم في عشر طبقات وأصحاب المراثي وشعراء القرى العربية، والقسم الثاني وهم الشعراء الإسلاميين ووضعهم أيضا في عشرة طبقات يذكر أسماء الشعراء وأنسابهم وأخبارهم وشيئا من أشعارهم ومروياتهم الشعرية وفي آخر الكتاب فهارس عامة للكتاب ما عدا الأشعار.
