Translated to Arabic, «The householder», a 1960 novel by German/British/American Booker Prize-winning novelist Ruth Prawer Jhabvala (1927-2013). The author resided in India for 24 years, and «The Householder» pulls its story from her experiences there. In the novel, Prem, a newly married, young teacher in New Delhi, finds the responsibilities of being a householder perplexing, daily life with his absurd wife bewildering, and confrontations with his headmaster unnerving. Translated to Arabic by Khalid al-Jubeili.
