Translated to Arabic, «Descoberta da América pelos turcos» (The Discovery of America by the Turks), first published in 1994, by best-selling Brazilian novelist Jorge Amado (1912-2001). The main characters of the book are the Syrian Jamil Bichara and the Lebanese Raduan Murad, who in 1903 arrive in Brazil and settle in the cocoa region of southern Bahia . Raduan tries to convince Jamil to marry Adma, the daughter of the owner of a haberdashery, so that he can inherit his father-in-law's business.
