Translated to Arabic, «Ben, öteki ve ötesi : -İslâm-Batı ilişkileri» (Introduction to our history and the other and beyond; the relations between Islam and the West), by Turkish author, historian, and Islamic studies scholar, Ibrahim Kalin (1971-). The work argues that there is a convergence between Islam and the West, but the 'other' leads to more difference and distance. The author looks for commonalities and considers them points of interaction. He bases his approach on the common history of Islamic and Western societies and where transitions have occurred and the role of the perception of the 'other', occuring on both sides. Then he addresses works of thinkers who have considered Islam and the West as neighbors, rivals, equals, or even two brothers.
