This book
contains stories that stir the emotions and ignite a fierce sense of longing—
stories that articulate what the world, with all its revered civilizations, has failed to express.
With raw transparency, they recount the suffering of a people deprived of the maternal embrace of their homeland,
and they weave tales of love—arduous, defiant, and complex—
for those whose destiny it was to be Palestinian,
paying the heavy price for such an identity and such an allegiance.
There are barriers between towns that ought to be intertwined,
barriers between one village and its neighbor,
between two narrow alleyways, or even between two hearts.
There are memories that burn bright from the playgrounds of childhood,
an indescribable love for one’s birthplace—the cradle of all human feeling—
an unconquerable pride, a brow that never bows,
and a dream of return that shall never be extinguished.
