«Anise girls» a novel by Syrian writer Hussein Warur.
The Seeds of Life
In 1946, our main character was just a five-year-old boy, observing as the village women diligently worked on harvesting anise. This was his first glimpse into the world around him. The gypsies, often roamed from village to village at the end of the season to perform their mesmerizing acts and acrobats.
Changing Tides
Following several years of consecutive droughts, the boy’s father advised him to learn the trade of tailoring in the nearby city of Damascus while also focusing on reading and writing as a backup plan.
Sewing Destiny
The boy soon began working as a tailor in his adolescent years in a bustling workspace filled with dozens of young women. Consequently, he found himself emotionally entangled in this new atmosphere.
Compare and Contrast
In his subconscious mind, he frequently drew comparisons between the village girls and city girls; he noticed their differences in work ethic, behavior, and all aspects of life.
The Blossoming Hear
His emotions blossomed beyond what his mind could fathom. This journey led him to explore what love between a man and a woman might look like. He realized that love itself is an eternal search for love.
