Unlike other collections that focused on specific themes like asceticism or legal rulings, al-Nawawi selected these specific hadiths because each one represents a "fundamental axis of the religion" and encompasses "the essence of Islamic teachings." These narrations cover vital topics such as intention, ethics, law, and spirituality. Because of its brevity and profound impact, it has become the most widely memorized and taught introductory text in the Muslim world, serving as a comprehensive summary of Islamic principles and character.
