Here... Now. What perforated memory allows us to forget the thousands who are rotting awain in prisons here...and now? This is a shame bordering on complicity. From our fear, our apathy, and our silence, the executioner weaves his whips. From our fear, our apathy, and our silence, the prisons overflow with us and life here becomes a nightmare of madness and terror. Abdulrahman Munif's novel shatters the silence and proclaims the scandal. These nations are a scandal - the prisons are a scandal, these citizens - the prisoners are a scandal. Between exposure and incitement, between artistic and historical awareness, Abdulrahman Munif constructs a novel - a testimony that we cannot do without if we want to know the HERE AND NOW, and if we want to change the HERE AND NOW as well.
