Ibn Abidin’s commentary (Radd al-Muhtar ala al-Durr al-Mukhtar) is a book that is a comprehensive commentary and encyclopedia of jurisprudence on the jurisprudence of Imam Abu Hanifa al-Nu’man. It is based on the commentary of the scholar Alaa al-Din al-Haskafi on the book Tanwir al-Absar by Sheikh Shams al-Din al-Tamartashi al-Ghazi al-Hanafi. Ibn Abidin explained it in a comprehensive manner, in which he touched upon the explanation of linguistic vocabulary, and provided legal evidence from Qur’anic verses and prophetic hadiths, and detailed the opinions and sayings of the followers of the school, and what is relied upon in the school and what is apparent in it. He also sometimes addresses the opinions of the remaining schools, with an investigation of the point of disagreement and clarification of the issues. Therefore, this commentary is considered one of the best things written by later scholars on the branches of Hanafi jurisprudence.
