Early Poetry of Urwa ibn al-Ward and Samaw'al.

Urwa ibn al-Ward ibn Zayd al-Absi, from Ghatafan. One of the poets, knights and generous men of the pre-Islamic era. He was nicknamed Urwa al-Sa'alik, because he gathered them and took care of them if they failed in their battles. Abdul Malik ibn Marwan said: Whoever says that Hatim is the most generous of people has wronged Urwa ibn al-Ward.

al-Samawal ibn Ghareedh ibn Aadiya al-Azdi. A wise pre-Islamic poet. He was a resident of Khaybar (north of Medina). He used to move between it and his fortress which he called «Al-Ablaq.» His most famous poem is his Lamiyyah.
